Patrick Buchanan seems obsessed with his navel. He comes to the self-conscious conclusion that the next election
will be a referendum on Bush. Say it ain't so, Pat. Nay, say rather, the next election will be a referendum on liberalism, as it should be. Why will ye snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
There are a hundred reasons why liberal ideology has outlived its evolutionary usefulness. I'll name but a few:
LAWLESSNESS - Liberals have always had a soft spot in their hearts (and their minds, but that is a subject for another day) for the criminal element. Liberal judges have ruled sympathetically with America's villains ever since the Warren Court sat. (For good reading on this, see Ann Coulter's book, Godless.) They have demonstrated their affection for felonious activities in many diverse ways, and I don't have to cite their defense of President Clinton during impeachment and turning a blind eye to accusations of rape, nor their lack of vigor in investigating the actions of Sandy Bergher who stole classified documents from the National Archives. It is sufficient to point out their obsession with criminal rights and their lack of attention to the rights of the victims, and to cite their tolerance of lawbreaking around the US and the wholesale invention of new laws by liberal courts. Liberal mayors now marry whomever they wish in direct circumvention of law. Liberal judges now strike down whatever they feel like striking down, and uphold whatever suits their current politics.
FAILURE TO DEFEND DEMOCRACY - As we well know, democracies don't just happen. Without resistance, dictatorships oppress people in perpetuity. Some brave folks often need to intervene in order to establish law and justice for the political have-nots around the world. Might does not make right, but lack of might insures a governmental void that tyrants and despots will be more than willing to fill. Such is the case with the intransigent Mr. Saddam Hussein. But rather than praise the efforts of the US to root out the lawless and reckless despots who violated his own international agreements and promoted acts of terror outside his own borders, liberals attack the good guys. This is more than just burying their heads in the sand. This is fanatical cowardice in the face of defending their own way of life. These people can't defend a democracy, they have no guts. They have gotten so soft the time has now come to overrun their positions from within.
They will give up rather than offend anybody.
Now, that last bit was tongue in cheek, and just occurred to me as I was typing, I don't really want to overrun their position, they are cute with all their little protests and their gay fingers wagging in the air chiding us that marriage is for dogs and cats too.
Lastly :
ATHEISM - Liberals are pathologically in love with the materialistic world. They are comfortably numb to the idea of a real religion beyond atheism. To them religion is an artifact whose purpose or intent they are clueless about, much like an ape finding a computer. The overwhelming majority of people on the planet adhere to a religion of some sort, reflecting mankind's search for meaning. Religion has proven impossible to wipe out over the centuries, even by some very determined people, and yet the liberal orthodoxy's love affair with all things materialistic continues unabated. It's in their politics: the worship of money, (rob the rich, instead of working towards prosperity themselves), the worship of the environment, (another manifestation of materialism), and worship world opinion, (another aspect of materialism is approval seeking, we all do it, but liberals make it into a political platform.)
These are just a few of the flaws in liberal mentality that will prove its undoing. True it is that the more stubborn elements and extremists will resist the coming change, but they are losing traction, and elections. The next election can be, and should be, one of them.
